K.E.P. Print Group Lamina Blackline Litho Laminator upgrade
Summer 2017 - To keep up with the high workload due to business growth, KEP Print Group, Ltd. based in Tamworth, UK has installed a high-speed Lamina Blackline 1620 FA 1600/800. Faced with increasing sales and a laminating machine that was running at maximum output, Managing Director Mark Plowman knew he needed to invest in a faster laminating machine. “We were running our old Lamina in 24-hour shifts to keep up with the demand,” Plowman explained. “The new machine runs nearly four times faster and has shorter make-ready times, so our previous 24-hour workload can be done in one shift.” The new Lamina Blackline 1620 is a high-speed fully automatic sheet-to-sheet laminating and mounting machine and produces high-end corporate retail packaging and POS advertising display materials. The new Blackline has a higher capacity feeder, allowing full pallet quantities to be loaded into the machine. “With the higher capacity, we spend less time loading the machine,” stated Plowman. “It also uses the latest computer technology which reduces our set up times for each job and leads to a higher quality end product for the consumer. We’re excited to pass on quicker turnaround times and the best products to our customers.”
Simpson Group invest in Bickers XY Plotter Gluer at FESPA 2017
UK POS printer Simpson Group has signed for a Bickers Gluejet at Fespa 2017. The 2m x 3m plotter gluer can apply hotmelt and/or PVA glue and is Simpson’s first Bickers plotter gluer machine. It will be installed after the show has finished. Simpson chairman Mark Simpson said the Gluejet’s benefits included increased automation and consistency in the construction of P.O.S. display units. “It also means we are creating higher value jobs for our people by replacing lower-value manual jobs,” he said. The Gluejet from Bickers is the largest format and fastest cnc plotter gluer of its kind available on the market. Many companies describe the Gluejet as being a 'no brainer' and many existing companies have stated it is the best decision they have ever made. Bickers installs are now approaching 50 in the UK alone making it by far the machine of choice for display producers.
Greenshires streamlines finishing with Gluejet XY Glue Plotter
Commercial and wide-format printer Greenshires Group has installed a Bickers plotter gluer Robotic Gluejet in a bid to speed up the gluing process. The machine was installed by Bickers' UK sales agent Finishline Machinery at Greenshires’ Leicester premises around six weeks ago. Greenshires managing director Marcus Cross said he expected to recoup the cost of the machine within two years.
Cross first saw the machine at Drupa 2016 and settled on it after a visit to Bickers’ headquarters in Germany, where he tested it using a number of different samples. The company has previously relied on hand-held glue guns.
Cross said: “It was quite laughable when we were working the machine and seeing how good it was. It got to a stage where we were all like a bunch of children; so it was a no-brainer. “Now it is suddenly a totally new way of thinking, not only with finishing but this also changes the way you design a unit, as instead of finding an intricate way of putting the thing together, you just put it on the gluer.
“The problem with glue guns is that each person who uses them does the work differently. This way we standardise every unit that goes out so compliance for customers in stores is at its maximum, whereas before you were at the whim of whoever is operating the glue gun.”
Meant for FDSU and POS work, the gluer applies hotmelt and PVA glue in almost any pattern.
Cross added that the Gluejet plotter gluer has halved the time required for producing POS jobs.
Boxes & Packaging Opts for Lamina Crash Lock Folder Gluer
The ability to glue together our packaging solutions is of critical importance to all our sites, but our Manchester site was experiencing a particularly high volume of work which required investment in this area of its operations.
As a result a Lamina Crash Lock Gluer CLG 1812 was commissioned to meet the needs of customers, provide gluing flexibility and fulfil shorter lead times. The compact gluer is a fully automatic folder gluer that is equipped with a non-stop suction belt feeder and a variety of guides and belts to handle standard one-point glued boxes or three-point glued crash lock boxes. Furthermore, set up times are as little as ten minutes with capabilities for 10,000 pieces per hour. The simple batch separation system makes it a very operator friendly machine and supports the site in improving it efficiencies and KPI’s. “The Lamina gluer was particularly appealing due to its easy set up requirements and the ability to maintain high quality products whatever the quantity required,” said Gary Hargreaves Managing Director Boxes and Packaging (Manchester). “The installation of the Lamina gluer has been a great success taking just three days to install and two days of training before the machine was fully operational. It will support us in our continued drive to increase our customer portfolio in the North West region.”
Bickers Gluejet Plotter XY Gluer DRUPA deal for SMP Group
During a successful DRUPA 2016 show for Bickers GmbH a deal was signed by SMP Group, based in London, for the latest plotter gluer Gluejet. A full demonstration of the machine on the stand was enough to secure the sale on the same day. The latest options for the Gluejet are DXF transfers, camera with large screen for programming the glue positions and turbo speed which doubles the previous velocity. Bickers currently has 43 installations in the UK with many more ongoing projects. The installation was completed in September 2016 and has already proved to be a great asset. Rick Bleek, Finishing Director says "The new Gluejet has been a welcomed addition to our factory by increasing capacity in production and providing a much more streamlined process than using hand-held glue guns." The Gluejet cnc plotter gluer is perfect for finishing FSDU/POS display work saving on staff, increasing productivity and giving consistency throughout the job.

Bickers Gluejet Plotter XY Gluer for Easypack POP Display Group
Technology is a wonderful thing, it’s something the wider Fencor Packaging Group has cheerfully embraced for a long time and last week saw the latest piece of technology delivered, installed and commissioned at the Easypack/POP Displays site in Suffolk.
A shiny new Bickers plotter gluer table is now central in the finishing department and is ready to make a big difference to the consistency and efficiency of the gluing operation.
As it employs multi-axis, servo-controlled adhesive dispensers it’s incredibly versatile and flexible for the display sector (as well as other packaging areas). The Bickers Gluejet plotter gluer can apply hot melt adhesives and cold PVA glue together in a single operation to small and large surfaces using as many as four different application procedures.
As the hot melt adhesive is pressure sensitive it remains in a useable state long enough to allow for very complex assemblies. As four items are able to be controlled and processed independently there are almost no limitations to the possible geometry of the application of the adhesives. The digital programming is aided by a laser pointer for perfect accuracy and once programmed the pattern can be saved for future use ensuring consistency of glue pattern and the ability to replicate extremely strong and flexible joints.
As with all good computer controlled technology this new gluing table can be accessed remotely at a distance should there ever be any need to. It’s a great addition to the existing plant and will increase the efficiency and productivity of the plant.
Superior invest in Lamina Gluer
Swedish manufacturer, Lamina System, has pleasure announcing their recent UK installation of a 2200 Gluer with Working Station and Tape Units at Wiltshire based Superior Creative. The machine will be used to increase production and consistency of glued and taped P.O.S. work in the finishing area. Superior has now entered its 40th year and employs over 150 highly experienced staff. Richard Blueitt (Operations Director) says " Our finishing hall is constantly under great pressure from our growing business. The new Gluer with Tape Applicators will help us to achieve tough deadlines." Lamina's UK Sales Agent, Neil Thayer, at Finishline Machinery sold the machine and we are all looking forward to FESPA and DRUPA in 2016.
Saxon Packaging boosts laminating capacity with Lamina investment
The 1.6x2m format machine was installed at the company’s premises in Lowestoft in August 2015. The Lamina is a high-speed sheetfed fully automatic mounting machine. It provides a sheet that is ready for die-cutting into luxury, high-end retail and promotional packaging, a growing market for Saxon. Sales manager Mike Impson said: “As a company we have seen an increased demand for decoratively printed packaging. Litho printing offers the highest quality of print available. With a high percentage of purchasing decisions made in-store, the use of colour and print enhancement to stimulate buyers helps deliver immediate brand recognition. Mounting these printed sheets to corrugated allows us to manufacture packaging that creates and promotes the brand in a highly effective manner. We used to sub out our litho laminating work; having the Lamina gives us more control and flexibility. We can do short runs if required; we can do tests on particular jobs if we want.”
The company flexo prints in-house in two or three colours but has invested heavily in litho lamination over the past decade. It subs out litho print, typically ranging from 170gsm to 225gsm, and then mounts sheets to lamination grades of fluted material for customers.
“Being a brand new machine it’s extremely accurate. With older machines the work can move about too much and that affects how a job goes through the die-cutter, which has to be really accurate. The Lamina is part of an 18 month, £1.5m investment programme at the company, which employs 53 people and has a turnover of £5.5m. Printweek Story
Kolorcraft Install First BICKERS XY TAPEJET in UK
Kolorcraft, based in Ossett, one of the UK’s largest designers and producers of point of sale for top brands and retailers, has invested over £600,000 in automated print finishing equipment, including two new machines from Bickers that will combine to offer customers unprecedented speed, accuracy, strength and cost efficiency when it comes to constructing more complex displays.
The new TAPEJET® machine is the first of its kind in the UK and provides accurate, rapid application of a wide range of speciality tapes of all widths, combining with pick and place functions, while the plotter gluer GLUEJET® combines hot melt and cold PVA to provide fast, accurate and durable bonds. Historically, the POS industry has relied upon conventional hand-gluing to bond individual elements of items such as free-standing display units and counter-top displays for retailers and brands.
“Although we’ve always been able to guarantee great quality, automating our gluing and taping functions will drive our efficiency and service up a further notch by reducing lead times and costs, while adding strength means we can continue to push the boundaries when it comes to creating and producing stand-out concepts and in-store theatre,” says Phil Findley, Managing Director, Kolorcraft.
The TAPEJET ® and GLUEJET ® machines are both manufactured in Germany by Bickers who specialise in the manufacture of gluing & taping machinery. Sold in UK by Neil Thayer of Finishline Machinery.
Andreas Bickers, Bickers GmbH says: “The TAPEJET machine is not being officially launched until the FESPA exhibition in Cologne from 18th-22nd May 2015, so Kolorcraft’s customers are very lucky to be benefiting now from this new technology. Theirs is currently the only machine of this type outside of France and Germany.” Printweek Story

The Printed Image invest in a Bickers XY Gluer Plotter Gluejet
The Printed Image based in Dublin has invested in a Gluejet plotter gluer from Bickers. This industry standard machine improves speed and consistancy in a normally manual area of the factory. After researching a way to automate the finishing area it was concluded that the Gluejet was the machine of choice to take gluing to the next level. Its ability to apply hot melt and PVA in spray or line in almost any pattern or shape on an X/Y axis is a huge advantage. The hot melt remains 'Open' meaning large areas can be covered in one pass prior to assembly. Training was carried out by Andreas Bickers, pictured with Tracy Dodd (left) from TPI and the some of the staff now operating this machine.
